Canva can put a stroke round a video, drop it into a frame, or set it on a coloured page. Here are Canva’s own steps, and a quicker option for one clip.
Canva has a real border control for videos: select the video in your design, choose Stroke style in the toolbar, then set the weight and colour. Corners in the same toolbar rounds it. For a fancier shape, drag the video into one of the Frames under Elements, and use the page’s Background color for the space round it.
Canva works well when the video is part of a designed post. If you only need a frame on one clip, the tool at the top of this page needs no account and does it on your own device: pick a look, a shape, and press Export video.
From the Canva Help Centre, late 2026.
Open your design and click the video once to select it.
In the editor toolbar, select Stroke style and pick a solid, dashed or dotted line.
Drag the stroke weight slider or type a value, then use the Color tile to change the colour.
Select Corners in the toolbar and adjust Corner rounding.
Choose Share, then Download, and pick MP4 video.
For a white or coloured margin like a print, make the video a little smaller than the page and set the page’s Background color: click an empty part of the page, choose Background color, and pick a tile or Add a color.
Changing a finished design to Instagram or TikTok sizes uses Resize, which needs a paid Canva plan; on the free plan, start a new design at the target size and copy the video in. Here, the same job is a click on Shape (4:5 for Instagram, 9:16 for vertical) and costs nothing.

Not as a built-in border option. Here, the Blurred background look fills the border with a soft copy of the clip.
